Sineath Family History
Recorded as Sennett, Sennitt, Sinnat, Sinnatt, Sinnath, Sineath, Sinnett, Sinnott, Synnot, and others, this is a surname of English origin, and yet is more widespread in Ireland and sometimes Scotland, where it was Gaelicized as "Sionoid". The name derives from the pre 7th century personal name "Sigenoth" means "victory-brave" from the elements "sige", victory and "noth", brave. The personal name appears as Synodus circa in the Feudal Documents from the Abbey of Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk, in 1095.Select Audience

Rick Sinnott
I'm looking for a Sineath who would like to know more about his or her ancestral connections in Ireland. I believe the Sineath family is related to the Sinnott/Synnott/Sennett/etc. families, many of whom appear to be descendants of a person named Synad or Synath who either participated in the 12th century Norman-Flemish invasion of Ireland or arrived shortly after. Some Sineaths also claim an ancestor from the same time period who may be the same or a closely related person. Only DNA can provide the necessary connection. I am a volunteer co-administrator of the Sennett surname project associated with Family Tree DNA. If you are curious, please send me an email.
