Sewell Family History
This interesting surname is of Anglo-Saxon origin, and has two possible meanings, the first being, that it derives from the medieval given names "Siwal(d)" and "Sewal(d)", from the Olde English pre 7th Century "Sigeweald", and "Soeweald", which are composed of the elements "sige", meaning victory, and "sae", sea, with "weald", rule, which translates as "sea power", and may have been a name given to sailors. However, Sewell may also be a locational name from either Sewell in Bedfordshire, Showell in Oxforshire, or Seawell or Sywell in Northamptonshire, all deriving from the Olde English "seofon", seven, and "wella", spring. Locational surnames were developed when former inhabitants of a place moved to another area, usually to seek work, and were best identified by the name of their birthplace...Select Audience

My 4 times great grandfather, Walter Sewell (Shuel) was born in County Kerry in 1776, died there in 1827. He married Margaret OโNeil (1779-1834). I have not been able to find his parents nor ancestors back, beyond him. Where might I find his parents names and other ancestors? For reference, his son Walter (1797-1840) married a Jane OโNeill (1799-1883) there. Respectfully, Raymond (Kelly) Burbank

I am interested in any information on where I came from and how and what my ancestors where like and what they did. I would like to know when and were my bloodline started. I like to know when the Sewells came to United States, I like to know where the Sewells lived in Ireland. Everything really.
