McCosker Family History
Recorded as Cosgrave, Cosgrove, O' Cosgrave, MacCosgrove, McCosker, McCusker, O' Cosker, Cosker and Cusker, and recorded mainly in Ireland, but sometimes in Scotland, this is a surname of early Gaelic origins. Today it is regarded as being a branch of the Clan MacGuire, and has its epicentre at the village of Ballymacosker in County Fermanagh. It probably originates from the pre 10th century word 'coscrach' meaning victorious, and as such this would have been applied to the first chief of the clan. As to who this was, is uncertain, but it is likely that it originates from County Galway where Coningus O' Coscraich was the bishop of Clommacnois in the 10th century...Select Audience

Rachel Robinson
I am a direct descendant of John McCosker born 29 May 1821 in Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland. He emigrated to the US in 1843. He married Catherine Spence born 21 Apr 1822 in Philadelphia. They married 7 July 1844 and had 11 children. During that time they moved to Milwaukee, WI where they lived for about 20 years. They both worked as tailors. In later years, they moved to Lake County in northern Illinois. Their third son, Joseph Vincent McCosker was my great grandfather, born 29 Oct 1848. Joe worked as a switchman on the CNW RR and was killed in an accident on the railroad in 1891. He had married Mary Frances Devine and they had 4 children, all of whom died young except for my grandfather, Charles Florian McCosker, born 30 July 1879. Charles also worked on the railroad as a passenger brakeman. He married twice, first, Catherine (Kitty) Anderson, who had a child, George McCosker and then passed away just 6 days later. Charles then married Cora Sultz and they were the parents of my mother Frances Anne McCosker, born 25 Dec 1920. Fran worked as a nurse and married my father, Ray Robinson, an artist. Since John McCosker came to the US, I have a lot of info about him, but nothing about his parents or other ancestors in Ireland. He may have a sibling named Thomas, but that I am not sure of. If anyone has any info about the McCoskers of Enniskillen, Ireland, I would be grateful for that info.

I don't know of any famous McCoskers. None of my family were famous.
