Ivey Family History
Recorded in several forms as shown below, this is an English surname which owes something to pre 7th century Norse-Viking, Anglo-Saxon, and Norman French origins. Firstly, it may be derived from the Norman personal name "Ivo", from the word ifar meaning a long bow made from the supple wood of the yew tree. This was a popular name in Normandy and Brittany, and was introduced into England at the time of the Conquest of 1066, perhaps reinforcing the Olde English pre 7th Century names of Ifa or Iva which mean the same. The second origin is locational from a place called Ivoy in Normandy...Select Audience

Lucretia Seuren
Hello, My name is Lucretia (Ivey) Seuren. My father's name was Milton Ivey and His father's name was Willie Edward Ivey. my paternal great grandfather was Edward Ivey, and my 2nd great grandfather was John M. Ivey. That is as far as I have gone so far with building my tree. I think my branch of the Ivey's came to America pretty early in American history...maybe mid 1600s. I believe they landed near Portsmouth, Virginia and then moved into North Carolina and we were a prolific family. They were farmers and fishermen as we have always lived in this area of Currituck (Indian name) or Hertford, North Carolina which is right on the Atlantic Ocean. I believe we helped to settle the Jarvisburg area on down to Nags Head, North Carolina. Does anyone know anything about my family? We may be way more English than Irish but, over 90% of my ancestry comes from the British Isles. I am Welsh, English, Scottish, and Irish.
