Adair Family History
This name derives from the Olde English pre 7th Century personal name Eadgar, a compound of the elements "ead" meaning "Prosperity -spear". The name is found in Medieval English in various forms i.e. Edgar, Adger, Agar etc., and is first recorded as Edgar in the Domesday Book of 1086, for Huntingdonshire. The surname from this source first appears in the mid 13th Century, (see below). In the "modern" idiom, the name has no less than seventeen spelling variations, including Edgar, Eag(g)er, Egar(r), A(d)ger etc.. On May 29th 1606, William Adair married Margaret Johnstown, at Edinburgh Parish Church, Edinburgh, and Alisone Adair was christened there on November 18th 1610...Select Audience

Stephanie Adair
Hi, my name is Stephanie Adair. I live in Canton, GA. USA. I would like to know more about my family origins. My dad, Richard Adair, has done quite a bit of genealogy of the Adair's, here in the US, but, I am curious about the Adair's of Ireland. I know that Bozeman Adair was the first to come over from my line. I was wondering if anyone would be able to elaborate from there about the history prior and who I may be related to that is still in Ireland!
Adair
Ann (Annie) Adair, born Ireland circa 1805 married to William McCarter, emigrated to South Africa and settled in the Western Cape. Cannot find marriage or emigration records. I found a record indicating she died in 1853.
Their son William Michael Adair McCarter added Adair as a third name to all his children.
