BLEWETT Family History
This unusual and interesting name comes from an English nickname for someone who habitually wore blue clothes or for someone with blue eyes. The derivation for both is from the Old French "bleuet", a diminutive of "bleu", blue, which in Middle English became "bluet", meaning blue wollen cloth, or "bleut", the cornflower. It was a common practice to create a surname from a nickname in medieval England. The name can be found spelt various ways in the modern idiom, ranging from "Blewitt" and "Blewett" to "Blonet" and "Bluett".Select Audience

My father, Harry Ray Blewett (also known as McClellan) had a very painful upbringing. His father, Harry William Blewett became estranged when he was very young. He was then "adopted" by his stepfather as a teenager, and went by the surname McClellan. We never discussed his real father growing up. It wasn't until I got invoved in Ancestry, did we decide to open that chapter. We found a treasure trove of fascinating stories as we traced back our family. The furthest back we get is DNA match to William Bluett b. 1680 in Cornwall, EN.We are direct descendents of William Blewett b.1716 in Cornwall and died 1790 in Blewett Falls, NC, USA.??
